TASIWA conducted Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) education and awareness activities at St. Joseph Seminary in Mwanza to improve students’ understanding of the condition, its hereditary nature, the importance of screening, and the challenges faced by people living with SCD. The initiative aimed to provide accurate health information, address misconceptions, and promote compassion and support for individuals affected by the condition.
The initiative also promoted the formation of sickle cell clubs in secondary schools to empower students to become peer educators and advocates for SCD awareness. Through these clubs, students can share reliable information, challenge stigma, encourage screening, and foster supportive school environments for students living with SCD.
