For years, the cost of clinic visits and medication consumed almost everything one mother in Mwanza earned. Two of her children live with sickle cell disease, and every crisis meant days away from work.

Through TASIWA's socio-economic empowerment programme, she received business skills training and a small start-up kit. Today she sells household goods from a stall near her home — close enough to be there when her children need her.

“Once families are empowered economically, education, health and other benefits for warriors follow.”

This is the heart of our approach: when a family is stable, a child's treatment is sustained.
