TASIWA conducted Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) education and awareness activities at Lake Secondary School in Mwanza to increase students’ understanding of the condition, its hereditary nature, the importance of screening, and the challenges faced by people living with SCD. The initiative aimed to promote accurate health information, challenge misconceptions, and encourage a more inclusive and supportive school environment.

The initiative also focused on establishing sickle cell clubs in secondary schools to empower students to become peer educators and advocates for sickle cell awareness. Through these clubs, students can share reliable information, reduce stigma, encourage screening, and promote understanding and support for fellow students living with SCD.
