TASIWA joined community members and stakeholders in Mwanza for a charity walk to launch Sickle Cell Awareness Month on September 1, 2018. The event aimed to raise public awareness of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), promote understanding of the condition, and encourage community involvement in supporting individuals and families affected by it. The event’s Guest of Honour was Mwanza Regional Commissioner Hon. John Mongella, represented by Dr. Thomas Rutachunzibwa, the Mwanza Regional Medical Officer.
TASIWA extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, including doctors from Bugando Medical Centre and Sékou Touré Regional Referral Hospital, security and defence personnel, KK Security, Sayona Drinks Ltd, Acqua Rock Drinking Water, participating school students, parents and guardians, Tanzania Rural Health Movement, Madini+, and all other individuals and organizations who supported the initiative in various ways.
Together, we continue to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and build a more informed and supportive community for people living with Sickle Cell Disease.
