Tanzania Sicklecell Warriors Organization (TASIWA), in collaboration with Baylor Tanzania, has successfully conducted training for 37 Community Health Workers (CHWs) from Nyamagana and Ilemela districts in Mwanza Region under the Securing Health, Improving Lives project. Funded by the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation through Baylor College of Medicine, the project aims to strengthen community-level support for people living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). The training equipped CHWs with essential knowledge and skills to provide accurate information about SCD, address stigma and misconceptions, and promote access to appropriate healthcare services.
Through this initiative, TASIWA and its partners aim to build a network of skilled community health workers who can support individuals and families affected by SCD through health education, early screening awareness, and referral to healthcare facilities. TASIWA appreciates the continued partnership and support of the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine, and Baylor Tanzania in strengthening community health systems and improving the quality of life of people living with sickle cell disease.
