TASIWA has begun establishing Sickle Cell Clubs in primary and secondary schools across Mwanza. Each club is led by trained student peer educators and a supervising teacher.
Club members learn how sickle cell disease is inherited, how to recognise a crisis, and how to support classmates with the condition — from making sure they have water during the day to standing up against stigma in the classroom.
What clubs do
- Run awareness sessions during school assemblies
- Encourage students and parents to know their genotype
- Build resilience and self-advocacy skills among students living with SCD
- Work with school administrations so warriors get the care and flexibility they need
Schools interested in starting a club can contact us through the Get Involved page.
